NAPLES 2500: THE “SPECIAL EDITION” JERSEY UNVEILED AT MASCHIO ANGIOINO, BLENDING SPORTS, HISTORY, AND CULTURE

The official presentation of Guerri Napoli’s new commemorative jersey took place this afternoon in the Sala della Loggia at Castel Nuovo (Maschio Angioino). A true “Special Edition,” the jersey was created to honor the 2,500th anniversary of the city of Naples, blending the area’s sporting identity with its millennia-old cultural heritage.

The initiative, developed in collaboration with Givova and Sport Media House, is not only a tribute to the city’s history but also serves an important charitable purpose. The project supports the Santobono-Pausilipon Foundation Onlus, reaffirming the unbreakable bond between professional sports and solidarity toward children.

Among the speakers at the event were Emanuela Ferrante, Naples City Councilor for Sport; Flavia Matrisciano, Director of the Santobono-Pausilipon Foundation; Gennaro Cozzolino, Marketing Director of Givova; and Fausto Della Villa, Creative Director of Sport Media House. Representing Guerri Napoli were Head Coach Alessandro Magro, General Manager James Laughlin, Sporting Director Alessandro Di Fede, and player Savion Flagg, the standout ambassador of the new jersey.

Statement from Councilor Emanuela Ferrante:
“This jersey is not just a piece of sportswear, but a symbol of pride that embodies 2,500 years of history and passion. Celebrating our roots through basketball, while at the same time supporting an excellence such as the Santobono-Pausilipon Foundation, highlights the social power of our sport. This event represents a key step in a broader journey: Naples is preparing for the extraordinary challenge of becoming the European Capital of Sport in 2026. We want sport to be the driving force behind the city’s renewal and international visibility, carrying our values and identity to the top of Europe.”

Alessandro Di Fede, Sporting Director of Guerri Napoli:
“The idea was born some time ago with the aim of highlighting Mount Vesuvius as a symbol of Naples’ identity and energy. The creative contribution of Savion Flagg was essential—we rediscovered his artistic vision, sensitivity, and professionalism, giving the project a strong soul, later developed together with Bey Studio and Givova. The final result brings together sport and solidarity: jerseys signed by the players will be auctioned, with all proceeds donated to the Santobono-Pausilipon Foundation.”

Fausto Della Villa, Creative Director of Sport Media House:
“Our team worked on the creative concept of the jersey, defining its messages and objectives and transforming the idea into a tangible product thanks to Givova’s support. The inspiration comes from Mount Vesuvius: black as fertile land, fragmented shapes as texture, and gold as a reference to Naples’ intense and baroque soul. All these elements were reinterpreted in a detail-rich design, with the goal of combining a strong visual identity with a charitable purpose.”

Gennaro Cozzolino, Marketing Director of Givova:
“For years we have proudly supported Napoli Basket’s projects, and when this new proposal arrived, our enthusiasm was immediate, even though the timeline was very tight. From the very beginning there was great cooperation with the entire organization and creative partners, turning this challenge into a project that brings together basketball, the city, and social commitment. Our hope is that the initiative will be warmly received by fans and that jersey sales will provide concrete support for a noble cause, while celebrating Naples at the same time.”

Flavia Matrisciano, Director of the Santobono-Pausilipon Foundation:
"The donation and the initiatives in support of hospitalized children represent concrete help to improve their lives and health, while also demonstrating the closeness and solidarity of the community, institutions, and local businesses. Managing moments of care and attention like these reminds us how important it is to support one another, especially during a period such as Christmas, bringing hope and gratitude. We look forward to welcoming everyone to the hospital to share this special moment together.”

Coach Alessandro Magro:
“Too often we forget how fortunate we are. Knowing that with so little we can bring happiness to children should make us reflect. I feel privileged to represent this team. Naples cannot be defined by a single word—it is overwhelming, passion, and a desire for redemption. It’s wonderful to share this dream. There is a strong desire to succeed, and I’ve been lucky enough to travel a lot in my life. I believe things change when the time is right, and being here now gives me great responsibility. We want to serve as a social vehicle and will always be available for any charitable initiative. Every day I feel more like a son of Vesuvius—I want to stay here for a long time and try to leave a mark, because this city is truly extraordinary.”
